Mali: Ah. Hello. Thank you for talking to me. Mali (last name; Hayworth) is just some nineteen (19) year old, a kinda-quiet girl from Baltimore, Maryland. Nothing too extraordinary, really.
theusmagazine.com: Tell the people a bit more about your background.
Mali: I was born in Maryland. And since I was born, I haven’t really left Maryland. I have two sisters (I’m the oldest), and as far as I know, I’ve been interested in art since I was very young. I used to draw, sing, write and read a lot as a kid. And the first real instrument I played was the clarinet. I played it in fifth grade. My band teacher always used to tell my mum how impressed he was with my music skills. Growing up, I listened to a lot of soul music. Soul, pop, rnb and reggaeton. I didn’t actually get to listen to hip-hop/rap music until I was like twelve (12) or thirteen (13). So this is all still kinda new to me.
theusmagazine.com: What are some of the things that inspire your music?
Mali: I think my main inspiration is my dad. He was what got me into music. He used to produce music. Other than that, I don’t think I have inspirations.
theusmagazine.com: What are some of your goals in the music industry?
Mali: My main goal at the moment is to just get my music out there. Hopefully, by the end of this year, I’ll have a decent following. And then I can move on to bigger, better things.
